The Community Coalition for Prevention of Falls in Older Adults
Thinking about how you can make a difference?
We are a group of agencies, organizations, and individuals working together to raise Grey/Bruce seniors' awareness about their potential risk of falls and thus encourage participation in activities that reduce these risks through education, skill building and support.
Our past accomplishments include:
- Coordination, identification and facilitation of Seniors' Theatre Troupe (Rising Stars) for Prevention of Falls in the elderly
- Organized "Seniors in Action" conference
- Organized and recruited participants for the Senior Fitness Instructor's Course
- Production/revision of Home Safety Checklist "Are You in Jeopardy?"
- Co-ordination and facilitation of "Steady As You Go" (SAYGO) program
- In one year, distributed 20,000 older adults physical activity guides, 100 posters, 415 handbooks in Grey and Bruce Counties
- Participated in a talk show on the radio about physical activity. 5900 seniors listened to the show.
- 158 seniors participated in community walks
The coalition meets once a month, during spring and summer seasons, in Durham, Ontario. We welcome all new members. If you would like to make a difference for the seniors in your community by joining our coalition, please call Linda Yenssen, at 881-1920 or 1-800-821-7714, Public Health.
